Get involved with conservation through citizen science

Old Lyme Land Trust volunteers like you, collect data on the plants and animals that live in our open spaces. Your photos and other identifications help conservationists know what habitats key species are using, as well as changes in populations over time. Join our online species ID projects below to add your photos, recordings, and other data or to see what others have found near you.

iNaturalist

INaturalist projects crowdsource photos and recordings with location data and link them with expert verified species IDs. This data helps researchers track habitat usage, migration, and population health. iNaturalist is mostly used for identifying plants, animals, and fungi.

eBird

eBird is the species ID database powerhouse behind bird ID apps such as Merlin. You can identify birds by call in real time or by photo. Sharing your eBird data with researchers and conservationists allows them to protect habitat and migrating bird populations.
